Approach

Whether you’re pitching a business idea, making a speech or talking to the media, I can help you communicate with skill and confidence.

When I make films, my first task is to understand the story and construct a narrative that builds to a compelling and authentic conclusion. I use the same approach in my coaching.

We’ll work collaboratively - so I learn about your business and the ideas you want to communicate.

I’ll help you craft a corporate narrative that will connect with and engage your audience.

Then, we’ll workshop your presentation and fine-tune your delivery - so you’re communicating persuasively and confidently.

Everyone I work with is different, so I don’t have a set formula.

Initially, we’ll talk through what you want to work on, so I better understand you and tailor the session. I create a relaxed environment – a safe space - where we work collaboratively. That’s where the best work gets done.

At the heart of great communication is making a connection with the audience.

We’ll work on understanding the audience, shaping an engaging narrative for them.

We’ll focus on structure, building momentum, writing style, and weaving narratives - the personal and the corporate – so you’re ready to present a story that’s authentically yours.

Pacing, breathing and posture help you confidently present your authentic self to your audience.

With the worked-on ‘pitch’ I’ll use a simple video recording to workshop your presentation with you. We’ll look at how narrative, language and sentence structure all help you connect with your audience.

  • David was invaluable. He really listened to and understood my goals and where I am less confident, and then gave advice which was superbly tailored to me. Every time he explained a technique, he gave an example that was relevant to me to solidify my understanding. I’d highly recommend working with David.

FAQ

  • What happens when I contact you?

We’ll talk through your priorities and areas you want to work on. I’ll ask you to prepare a short presentation or ‘pitch’ for our planned sessions and ask you to send it to me prior to meeting.

  • How long are the sessions?

Each session lasts ninety minutes which includes a short break. There’s no strict format – we’ll plan the session together.

  • Do you have a set number of sessions?

Most of my clients like to have three sessions. Some clients have specific issues which can be worked through in a single session.

  • What about media training?

I also provide specific training on television and radio interviews. I’ll bring in another coach with a long track record in television – so we can role-play and workshop effectively.

  • Where do you work?

Most of my work is in Oxford where I live. I can travel to London and the Home Counties. It’s better to be one-to-one but I can also work with you on Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • What about privacy?

These are highly personalised, one-on-one sessions. I work with total discretion. I build relationships and stay in touch with clients who often want to return for further coaching.
